What is a Peggy? What does a Peggy do?

A Peggy is a person employed at a mine site camp to help maintain clean facilities and living areas for workers. A Peggy job description would include duties such as performing housekeeping tasks such as room cleaning, making beds, empty bins, clean bathrooms, toilets, kitchens, dining rooms, offices and general public areas such as walk-ways using cleaning equipment and cleaning products. From time to time a Peggy also undertakes additional tasks around the mine site and acts as a General Hand, otherwise known as a Utility.  

What other tasks might a Peggy be required to do?

  • Truck Driving and bus driving
  • Kitchen hand duties such as basic food preparation, dishwashing, cleaning the dining areas and re-stocking of supplies such as napkins, cutlery, etc…
  • Running errands
  • Laundry services – washing, drying and sorting of linen
  • Bar service
  • General hand around the camp

 

What skills or qualifications do I need for a Peggy job?

Generally, there are no specific qualifications required for a job as a Peggy. However, there are some essential requirements:

  • Current drivers licence – if you have a Heavy Rigid (HR) make sure you let them know. This means you can assist with truck driving if required.
  • Previous cleaning experience is recommended
  • Ability to pass a medical and drug and alcohol screening
  • Working rights to work in Australia
  • A ‘can-do’ attitude!
